Paying for Care & Benefits

Long-Term Care Funding

Every way Arizona families pay for senior care — private pay, long-term care insurance, ALTCS, VA benefits, home equity, and life insurance conversions.

Professional Introduction

Understanding Funding Care

The hardest question in senior care is rarely which community. It is how long we can afford it. Families routinely make decisions with an incomplete picture of what is available to them.

There are more funding levers than most people realize: long-term care insurance policies that were forgotten, VA Aid and Attendance, bridge loans that cover the gap during an ALTCS application, life insurance conversions, and home equity strategies for a spouse remaining at home.

This category maps every option, the eligibility that governs it, and how they combine — so a plan can be built for years rather than months.

Family Questions

Funding Care: common questions

Does Medicare pay for assisted living or memory care?

No. Medicare covers medical care, limited skilled nursing after a qualifying hospital stay, and hospice. It does not pay for room and board or ongoing custodial care in assisted living or memory care.

What if we run out of money while in a community?

This is planned for, not improvised. Many communities accept ALTCS after a private-pay period, and beginning the eligibility conversation early preserves options.
